Picking out the bad apples: unsupervised biometric data filtering for refined age estimation

چکیده
Introduction of large training datasets was essential for the recent advancement and success deep learning methods. Due to difficulties related biometric data collection, facial image with trait labels are scarce usually limited in terms size sample diversity. Web-scraping approaches automatic collection can produce amounts weakly labeled noisy data. This work is focused on picking out bad apples from web-scraped by automatically removing erroneous samples that impair their usability. The unsupervised filtering method presented this greatly reduces label noise levels Experiments two state-of-the-art demonstrate effectiveness proposed respect real apparent age estimation based five different Furthermore, we apply method, together a newly devised strategy merging multiple datasets, collected three major web-based sources (i.e., IMDb, Wikipedia, Google) derive new Biometrically Filtered Famous Figure Dataset or B3FD. dataset, which made publicly available, enables considerable performance gains all tested methods tasks. highlights importance quality compared quantity selection method.

Aging: Filtering Out Bad Mitochondria
During yeast cytokinesis an aged mother cell gives rise to an immaculate daughter cell. A new study now demonstrates that this rejuvenation encompasses a novel Sir2- and actin-cable-dependent filtering process that prevents feeble mitochondria from entering the daughter cell.

MOTIVATION Many methods have been developed for selecting small informative feature subsets in large noisy data. However, unsupervised methods are scarce. Examples are using the variance of data collected for each feature, or the projection of the feature on the first principal component. We propose a novel unsupervised criterion, based on SVD-entropy, selecting a feature according to its contr...
متن کاملPicking Pyknons out of the Human Genome
In a recent paper in PNAS, Rigoutsos et al. (2006) describe a nonrandom pattern of repeated elements, called pyknons, which are found more frequently in the 3' untranslated regions of genes than in other regions of the human genome. Although it is unclear how pyknons might have arisen, it is possible that they may be involved in a new form of gene regulation.
متن کاملLipid Signalling: Picking Out The PIPs
Many physiological targets have been suggested for polyphosphoinositol lipids, but two out of the three monophosphorylated PIPs appeared to be no more than metabolic precursors. Recent work has shown that they also have distinct binding proteins and functions.
متن کاملPicking out the Details of Cerebellar LTD
Cerebellar long-term depression is thought to underlie motor learning and is mediated by internalization of AMPA receptors from the neuronal plasma membrane. In this issue of Neuron, Steinberg et al. provide firm evidence that PICK 1 and the C terminus of GluR2 are central to this process by analyzing three different transgenic mice.
